PEOPLE are being encouraged to make a difference by signing up as a volunteer at the UK’s largest free event in 2018.
The Event Makers Programme, launched earlier today, looks to recruit and support over 350 volunteers to help deliver the iconic The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018.
Councillor John Kelly, Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture at Sunderland City Council, said: " There will be dozens of opportunities to be part of this iconic spectacle which will not only be important to the city’s economy but also how Sunderland is portrayed throughout the region and beyond.
“Volunteering can be fun, exciting rewarding and hard work too. I urge anyone who has ever thought about volunteering to contact the team and find out more about the opportunities that are there to help them make a difference.”
Volunteering Opportunities at The Tall ships Races Sunderland 2018 include:
Event support, staffing crew and volunteer centres, site dressing, welcoming visitors, programme selling, site and event information, assisting with crew activities, Ships liaison Officers and Ship Technical Liaison Officers.
Victoria French, Head of Events, Sunderland City Council said: “As a city we are looking for a team of volunteer Event Makers, with a wide range of interests, skills and experiences to help deliver fantastic occasions such as The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018.
“We need your help to make it happen! Our team of Event Makers will not only help deliver our part of the races next year but we hope, also play a key role in helping to deliver other city-wide events such as Sunderland Illuminations and Sunderland International Airshow.
