THIRTY ONE TALL SHIPS have now confirmed that they will race from Sunderland to Esbjerg in The Tall Ships Races 2018. Latest additions include WYVERN; a Class B Norwegian Tall Ship built in 1897 entered by the Stavanger Maritime Museum and TUULELIND, a sleek Class D ship joining us from Estonia and accommodating eight Sail Trainees.
Swedish Class B Tall Ship VEGA GAMLEBY has also recently confirmed attendance; she celebrated her 100th Anniversary back in 2009 and is still as seaworthy as ever. Thirty six Sail Trainees can expect to enjoy the atmosphere of an authentic sailing ship with a comfortable large lounge and cabins to accommodate two to four people.
Last in the latest round-up of confirmed ships is the SHTANDART, a stunning Russian Class A Tall Ship. Outside and inside she resembles a classic pirate ship, richly decorated with beautiful carvings, a lion figurehead and mermaids on the bow and wreaths around the gunports. On the transom you’ll find a three-headed dragon, flags, the imperial crest and King Neptune riding on the sea. Shtandart will be a spectacular ship to visit at the event and also a joy to sail at sea, taking thirty two lucky Sail Trainees.
