TUESDAY 10 JULY

Event Zone A  - opens from 4pm until 10pm

Event Zones B & C -  open 10am until 10pm

Some Tall Ships will arrive on Tuesday making spectacular viewing from the seafront and along the River Wear quaysides as they make their way past our piers and move to their berths on the river and within the Port of Sunderland.

All bars, caterers and trade and exhibition stands will be open.

Official Tall Ships Makers' Market open 10am-10pm at Event Zone C.

The Observation Wheel is on the show field at Event Zone B, ready for a ride. 

The stage programmes at Town Moor in  Event Zones B and East End and C will be in full swing with local school groups and local performers. See Town Moor Stage Programme

3pm -7.30pm - Old-school games, football and athletics at the Multi Use Games Area in Event Zone C.

4pm -10pm - Free family activities in Event Zone C in the Discovery Marquee.

5pm & 6.30pm - Penella Bee will entertain the crowds with an interactive performance “Senora’s Gambit” played out on a giant chess board in Event Zone A.

WEDNESDAY 11 JULY

Event Zones A, B and C open from 10am until 10pm

All participating ships will have arrived into Sunderland by lunchtime and ships will open at specific times for visitors to go on-board and discover more. The ships' crews will also get into the spirit of things in their inter-ship sporting competitions.

10am -12noon - A live-streamed world record attempt, The Big Sing, will be made at the stage at Event Zone C as schoolchildren from across Sunderland sing a collection of songs.

10am and 10pm - The official Tall Ships Makers Market is open in Event Zone C offering the finest local food, drink, art, design, vintage and modern crafts carefully selected from local business and artisan producers.

10am until 4pm - The Donnison School in Event Zone B will be showcasing a Sunderland Shipbuilding Exhibition

1pm- 8pm -  Our Georgian Festival will open at Holy Trinity Church, Event Zone B. Visitors will be greeted by characters in costume and can listen to talks, watch demonstrations and enjoy traditional Georgian games and activities.

6pm-7pm - The local East End community will celebrate the arrival of the ships with their own special Welcome Parade in Event Zone A.

7pm - Royal Northern Sinfonia and Sunderland Sympony Orchestra will take to the main stage in Event Zone B, with some classics to sing along to.

9.30pm - The day closes with a short firework display from the Port

Other highlights of the day include...

A full stage programme on the stage in Event Zone B starting at 10am with a variety of acts entertaining event visitors. 

A circus programme will be in full swing with Extraordinary Bodies new show “What Am I Worth” and high flying girls with attitude, Sisus Sirkus, all the way from Finland.

Thomas Potts WEAR PIRATES, WE ARRRRRRRRR! Celebrates a microcosm of Mackem mania by following the humorous misadventures of three characters; Spottee, Dottee and Pottee, a trio of eccentric seadogs who find themselves shipwrecked in Sunderland. Catch this delightful performance at Event Zone C at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.20pm

In Event Zone A Penella Bee will entertain the crowds with an interactive performance “Senora’s Gambit” played out on a giant chess board that has been salvaged from an enchanted ship, the Senora. Performances will run at 12.30pm, 3.30pm and 6pm.

THURSDAY 12 JULY

Event Zones A, B and C open from 10am until 10pm

10am -10pm - The official Tall Ships Makers Market open in Event Zone C.

1pm - 8pm - The Georgian Festival continues at Holy Trinity Church in Event Zone B.

3pm - 4.30pm - Crew Parade makes it's way from the Civic Centre, through the city centre to a prize giving ceremony in Event Zone C. The 1200+ crew will be joined by Close Act’s astonishing stilt dancers and electro drummers on the carnival style parade.

3.15pm and 7.45pm - Southpaw Dance will be whirling themselves around a real fairground carousel in a spectacular show in Event Zone B.

9.30pm - The day closes with a short firework display from the Port

FRIDAY 13 JULY

Event Zones A, B and C open from 10am until 10pm

The festivities continue across the city and a full programme of entertainment will ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Official Race business starts to get serious as the Captain's receive their briefing from Sail Training International officials as they set their sights on Esbjerg.

The 151 Sail Trainees from Sunderland arrive to join their ships to take part in the race to Esbjerg.

An awe inspiring high wire walk across the River Wear by Cirque Bijou at 9.15pm is the cultural highlight of the event, accompanied by live music and a few surprises! This event is best viewed from St Peters riverside at Event Zone C.

Crew changeover day – all Sunderland Sail Trainees join their ships.

On land an upturned shipwreck is the stage for Citrus Arts “Shipwrecks” a dance and aerial performance and Paulo Nani is “Jekyll on Ice” a hilarious clown ice cream seller.

SATURDAY 14 JULY

Event Zones A, B, C and D open at 10am

The ships will be closed to the public as they make their final safety checks and preparations to embark on the race to Esbjerg.

There'll be lots to see in the Port of Sunderland and along the river banks as the ships get ready to leave. Between 1.30pm and 5pm the ships will leave their berths and move out into the North Sea to take part in the stunning Parade of Sail. At 5.30pm until 7pm the ships will parade northwards up the coast to Souter Point, before turning round and heading out to the North Sea. The coastal resorts of Roker and Seaburn will provide fabulous viewing points as the city bids a fond farewell to the fleet.

Leg 1 of The Tall Ships Races from Sunderland to Esbjerg will begin out to sea between 8pm and 9pm.

But the entertainment won't stop when the ships leave, with programmed events continuing well into the evening as the city reflects and celebrates a fantastic few days...

For this year only, Summer Streets Music Festival moves to Recreation Park, Seaburn from 12pm until 8.30pm.

Keep an eye out for Sunderland’s own artists: Sophie Lisa Beresford brings out the Mackem Goddess with music and dance; Emma Broomfield’s stunning aerial act suspended from a ship’s mast; Penella Bee and her dancers on an interactive chess set… spin the wheel and the dancers move; Thomas Potts– meet Spottee, Dottee and Pottee on your travels around the Port and hear their stories of old Sunderland.
